What do you think the future of Chungnam will be like? Under the five provincial goals, the Office of Chungcheongnam Province is planning to carry out diverse policies to build a ‘Powerful Chungnam, the Heart of Korea.’
Focusing on economic growth and improvement of the quality of life of its citizens, the five provincial goals include balanced local development, welfare society for all, vital agricultural community, dynamic industrial economy, and a healthy natural environment.

The Regional Complex Development Plan for the Geumgang Area
Recognizing the current gap growing bigger and bigger among the areas within the province as a result of concentrated development in the northwest area, we are planning to work on equality and even development across the province by appointing specialists to the areas and expanding the traffic network. As part of the plan to develop the Geumgang area known for its poor growth, a regional complex development plan is under progress connecting Gongju, Nonsan, Geumsan, Yeongi, Buyeo, Seocheon, and Cheongyang.

Plans to Fight Back Low Birth Rates and Aging
Our countermeasures against low birth rates and aging include removing the blind spots of welfare to help those who with lower income, creating an advanced social and cultural infrastructure, and setting up preventive measures against disasters and accidents.
For those goals, we are going to build an office in charge of the athletic association of the disabled, provide more medical grants to the descendants of those who fought for the nation's independence, and build ten hospitals devoted to treating patients with dementia and Alzheimer's disease by 2010.

High value-added agricultural and fishing industry
We are also concentrating our resources and efforts on the conditions to promote high value-added agricultural and fishing industry using information technology and biotechnology. Total 16 agricultural and tourist villages supported by the cooperation among the agricultural community, academy, and government will be created for the cities and guns to promote better profits for the communities.

Special zones for specialized local development
Our efforts to grow the businesses that will lead the activation of the local economy with great driving force will be followed by creating an environment favorable to the businesses, creating more jobs by attracting foreign capital, and promoting medium- and small-sized companies and venture firms.
Our major projects will include the House of Baekje, which will promote the traditional arts and unique foods of Baekje.
In addition, we are planning to support the appointment of the Asan Tangjeong Educational Special Zone, Special Zone of Economic Cooperation in Northeast Asia, and Cheonan Special Zone of games, leisures, and culture.

We pursue harmony between conservation and development.
Under the goal of harmony between conservation and development, we will engage in systematic preservation and management of natural ecosystems, create a clean and clear atmosphere, and set up a natural cyclic monitoring system of waste materials to secure water resources.
Those projects will be handled by a new Committee for Sustainable Development, which will reinforce its cooperation with environmental organizations. Also in planning are the Monitoring System of Water Contamination Extent for the water systems of Lake Geumgang and Sapgyo.
