Chungnam residents elected Lee Wan-goo, who advocates a ‘strong Chungnam,’ as the leading candidate of the 4th popular election.
Mr. Lee, of the Grand National Party, won by obtaining 379,420 votes in the governor’s election (35th) conducted on May 31, well ahead of the other three candidates.

During the election campaign, Mr. Lee pledged to build a ‘strong Chungnam’ bringing up five major objectives and declaring a strong will to accomplish an economic recovery.
The five major objectives are: ▲Relocation of the Happy City and the provincial office as a driving force ▲A better and happy life for every Chungnam resident ▲A carefree and happy welfare society ▲Building the Grand IT Village ▲Acquire a new driving force, become world’s capital
Mr. Lee was born in Hongseong. He has a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Sungkyunkwan University and a PhD in public administration from Dankook University. He passed the civil service examination of administration in 1974, is a former Senior Superintendent General of Chungnam Provincial Police Agency, and was a member of the 15th and 16th National Assemblies (elected in Chungyang, Honseong).

“I will stake my position for the Multifunctional Administrative City,” Lee proclaims as his vision.
The governor-elect, Lee Wan-goo, declared his strong will to build the Multifunctional Administrative City, even ‘staking his job,’ on the promise.
He added, “I will continue to pursue the relocation of the Provincial Government building,” and “will carry out a mega-project so that the cities and counties other than the two major districts not be neglected, and bring about balanced development.”
Mr. Lee defines ‘strong Chungnam’ as “It is not about power. It is all about working with passion,” and added “taking the initiative in building the Multifunctional Administrative City is being strong.”
Also, he said with conviction that “I will discuss budget matters with the Blue House Policy Director as well as with the ministers and vice-ministers, and further help the budget campaign of the local National Assembly members.”
The governor-elect will sign the change-of-governorship agreement on July 1 when the 35th term starts, along with a simplified ceremony on July 3.
