What do you think is the most curious thing about Prof. Hwang Wu-suk? It might be the secret method he used to accomplish such a big result that has made history in the worldwide scientific field.
“ Is there anything better than sincerity for the secret of success ? Nowadays, the young men do not like to do such research works since they have to work from early in the morning until late at night without any holidays. I always encourage them by tapping on the shoulders and saying that the world requires our sincere efforts.”
He is known to do the best in everything not neglecting anything in his busy schedule, even to the degree that people raise quite a curious question about where such vigor comes from. He is so famous that he carefully and earnestly uses 24 hours a day and 365 days a year since he has many things to do in a limited time.
His team works for 365 days a year. On a working day, they have a meeting at 6:30 in the morning, but on Sunday the meeting time is delayed to 8:00 in the morning. He encourages his young researchers who want to give up research works, by telling them with the words that on the opposite part of the earth they work while we are sleeping. “Strike a rock with an egg. He goes on an overseas research trips frequently nowadays to participate in world academic conferences or to give lectures concerning stem cell research. When he is in a foreign country, he is always asked with the following question, “How have you succeeded in cloning the embryonic stem cells of a patient with incurable disease in Korea in advance of advanced countries such as U.S.A. or U.K?”
“It is quite difficult to handle an ovum different from that of an animal. The handskills of Koreans who handle iron chopsticks have achieved the results that researchers in other countries could not get.”

World-class Scientist, Born at an Agricultural Village
He was born in Buyeo, Chungnam. When he became very famous as a world top class scientist, the story on his childhood became a topic. His dream has made him as he is at present.
“When I came home from school, I used to feed the cattle. And I made up my mind to go on with cattle always in the future for the poor in my hometown. At that time, cattle were my favorite and familiar things. With that background, I selected Dept. of Veterinary Science when entering the university. I cannot forget the pleasure when Yeongrongi, the cloned cow, was born.”
His cloning research stared from his love of cattle in his childhood, whose development is being watched from many people with keen interest whether his study results, accomplished with his sincerity and passion. Sooner or later, his research will be put to practical use so that it will generate national wealth and cure patients with incurable diseases.
