Endless white beaches, the blue sea, small and large islands scattered over the horizon, vivid, colorful swimsuits and waves, pine tree forests blocking the sun, the sun setting far away over the horizon…summer vacation has started. Chungnam, adjacent to the west sea, has many beaches because of the developed coastal sand dunes in this region. The opening of the Seohaean Expressway made access to the region easier, and the Chungnam beaches are becoming more popular. Also, vacationers prefer natural forest resorts where they can relax and communicate with nature. Let us take a look into Chungnam’s most popular beaches and the nearby forest resorts.
There are two major beach districts in Chungnam. One is the Taean National Seashore Park district including the Kkotji, Hakampo, Manlipo, Cheonlipo, Yeonpo and Mongsanpo beaches, and the other is the Chungnam southern seashore district including the Daecheon, Boryeong Muchangpo and Seocheon Chunjangdae beaches.
The entire sea of Taean is designated as a National Seashore Park and its clean environment and heavenly scenery is the pride of Chungnam. The beach extending along the shore is becoming a summer time Mecca.
Kkotji beach is one the most famous beaches in Taean. Named after the many sweetbrier flowers on the beach, Kkotji beach is also famous for its sunset. The sunset seen between two rocks called Halmibawi and Halabibawi is fantastic.

Daecheon and its Mud Festival
Youth, romance, comfort and the beauty of nature all can be found at Chungnam’s most popular beach, the Daecheon bathing beach. It is a place of romantic memories for young couples, a vacation resort for families, and the perfect spot for marine sports.
The number of foreign tourists coming to Daecheon is increasing thanks to the worldwide known Mud Festival. Celebrating its 9th anniversary this year, the festival will be held during 21 days starting on 15 July at the Daecheon beach.

Anmyondo Natural Forest Resort and its Pine Tree Walk
Chungnam’s most famous forest resort is the Anmyondo Natural Forest Resort located in Anmyondo, Taean. Native pine trees called ‘Anmyonsong’ grow in the wild and a 3.5 km-long pine tree walk is built through the forest. Ten beaches of different sizes including the Kkotji are scattered around making the region an acclaimed vacation complex.
