The Chungcheong Nam-Do Agricultural Research and Extension Services gave training sessions on sericulture technology to five trainees from Rwanda, who visited the area in order to promote friendly cooperation between Chungcheongnam Province and their home country and to learn Korea's advanced sericulture technology, at the silk yarn and insect center in Gongju City for 45 days from August 17 to September 30 this year.

One of the emerging sericulture countries on the global scene, Rwanda has selected five highly educated talents working for the National Agricultural Research Institute, Department of Defense, Department of Agriculture and the Sericulture Agency and sent them to Koreato learn advanced sericulture technology. This was the result of its importing the exceptional silkworm species of Chungcheongnam Province and proving its high productivity in 2006. They requested training sessions and paid for the training expenses themselves.

The training sessions were comprised of lectures and practices by the experts on the core areas of sericulture including silkworm breeding, mulberry tree growing, and production of silkworm species, inducing enthusiastic responses from the trainees who were eager to learn all of them. It’s expected that it will be the beginning of many efforts and achievements for Chungnam to export exceptional silkworm species overseas and enter the trade and technology domains of Africa based industrial information exchanges in addition to agricultural information.

Representing the trainees from Rwanda, Mr. Eugene said, “We successfully mastered the advanced technology through training and will continue to work to grow the sericulture of our country by sending more trainees and importing more exceptional silkworm species.”
