Excellent agricultural food products such as ginseng, red ginseng, seasoned laver, etc., were shown to buyers from various countries including India.
Chungcheongnam-do participated in the “8th Annapoorna India 2011” held in Mumbai, India on November 16~20 representing Korean agricultural foods in a Korean booth. This Indian food fair is organized by Koelnmesse GmbH, the supervising company for Anuga FoodTec as the biggest world fair. At least 19 countries worldwide use this fair as platform to export foods and release new food products to the Indian region.
Chungcheongnam-do joined this Fair by installing a separate PR pavilion with the Daejeon-Chungcheongnam-do Regional Headquarters of the Korea International Trade Association; 5 participating companies such as Daedong Koryeosam (ginseng), Youngshin Foods (seasoned laver), Samyuk Fisheries (seasoned laver), Vitamin House (health foods), Keunbawi Foods (red ginseng), etc., showcased the superiority of Chungcheongnam-do’s agricultural foods to buyers from each country.
Companies in Chungcheongnam-do achieved pledged exports of USD 1,584,000 and contracted amount of USD 507,000 including Youngshin Foods(Seocheon), which signed a purchase contract onsite with S Company, which deals Korean agricultural foods. The participants also secured a significant number of potential buyers that will enable them to continue entering the Indian market.
Currently, the purchasing power of the markets of India with population of 1.2 billion is not so great compared with other Southeast Asian countries; the general assessment is that the prospects for small agricultural food companies in the province to enter the Indian market are positive considering the fact that some large companies have penetrated this market only with ramyeon, soy sauce, confectionery, etc.
Prospects for the export of beverages, confectionery, citron tea, red ginseng tea, salted laver, etc., to the Indian market are judged to be high. Product developments suited to the eating habits of the local people such as energizing drinks that Indians can enjoy by decreasing the concentration of red ginseng tea, curry-flavored salted laver, etc., are expected to be big winners.
