Chungnam Province, which has declared a special road towards carbon neutrality, aims to enhance cooperation and exchange with South Australia, where 70% of its electricity consumption is met through renewable energy sources, and utilize carbon neutrality as a mediator.

On the 31st, Governor Kim Tae-Heum met with Premier of South Australia Frances Adamson and Australian Ambassador to South Korea Catherine Raper at the provincial office's meeting room.

During the meeting, Governor Kim stated, "I learned that South Australia generates 70% of its electricity from renewable energy sources and aims to achieve 100% by 2030. With our declaration of the carbon-neutral economy special road and our emphasis on energy transition, collaborating with South Australia will create significant synergies."

Governor Kim further expressed, "As the co-chair of the Under2 Coalition Asia-Pacific Region, I hope for ongoing exchanges and cooperation with South Australia, which is actively engaged through its operational committee. I also request recommendations for experts to participate in the hydrogen international forum that the province will host in October."

He added, "Like the common saying that wine gets better with age, I believe that the trust and friendship between Chungnam and South Australia have deepened and matured over the 24 years of our close cooperation. I look forward to both regions jointly envisioning a progressive future in various fields such as agriculture and clean energy."

Located in the southern part of Australia, South Australia covers an area of 984,377 square kilometers, accounting for one-eighth of Australia's territory. With a population of 1.74 million, its per capita Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) stands at $61,343.

Notably, South Australia produces over 50% of Australia's wine and more than 70% of its grape wine production.

Additionally, South Australia meets 70% of its internal electricity demand through renewable energy sources and aims to achieve 100% renewable energy production by 2030.

Since the establishment of sisterhood ties in 1999, there have been continuous exchange activities between the province and South Australia, including performances by South Australian arts groups in Chungnam, visits by members of the Australian Federal Senate to Chungnam, study tours by South Korean female agriculturalists to South Australia, visits by the provincial council delegation to South Australia, and visits by the Minister of Economic Affairs of South Australia.

Meanwhile, beyond pursuing carbon neutrality in response to the climate crisis, the province declared the carbon-neutral economy special road in October of last year, aiming to innovate its economic and industrial structure through the promotion of related industries and generate new sources of growth for future sustenance and job creation.
