Chungcheongnam-do announced on June 20 that overseas participants for the 2022 Asian Cup Boryeong International Yacht Championship were fixed.

The Asian Cup Boryeong International Yacht Championship, the first official yacht competition in Korea certified by Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF), will be held for five days from July 20-24 at the Boryeong Yacht Competition area and Daecheon Beach.

The province planned to form ten teams for the J/70 category, two domestic and eight overseas teams. However, as interest from overseas players grew, the province decided to have one domestic team and nine overseas teams to allow more overseas participants.

The list of overseas participants for the Optimist category, in which youths under 15 participate, was fixed, drawing keen attention after the announcement.

For the J/70 event, 40 players will join from ten countries, including Korea, France, Denmark, Portugal, Italy, Singapore, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and New Zealand.

For Optimist sport, 60 players will be participating from 11 nations, including Korea, Poland, Greece, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Singapore, and Japan.

The Boryoeng International Yacht Championship will offer diverse programs for yacht competitions, yacht expeditions in the West Sea, and tourism for participants and officials. The competition will be a differentiated event in conjunction with the 2022 Boryeong Sea Mud Exhibition.

A provincial government official said, “This championship will allow players to return to normal after the protracted COVID-19 pandemic.”
