Chungcheongnam-do reviewed preparations
for the 2022 Boryeong Mud Festival, which will be held in 150 days, and the
related entities reaffirmed their resolve to successfully hold the festival.
On February 16th, 2022, the
province held a review session on the implementation plans and progress in
preparing for the 2022 Boryeong Mud Festival.
With about 30 persons in attendance,
including Governor Yang Seung-jo, Lee Pil-yeong, Vice- Governor for Administrative
Affairs, Kim Dong-il, Mayor of Boryeong-si, and Choi Gwang-ho, Chairman of the
Organizing Committee for the Boryeong Mud Festival, the session consisted of progress
reports and discussions.
The session shared information on and
discussed various projects and tasks for the festival and dealt with event
operations.
There are 67 related projects and programs
for the festival in five categories, including 15 projects for promotion, 14
for security, and 24 additional programs in which KRW 7.5 billion will be
invested.
Key tasks include promoting the 2022 Asian
Cup Boryeong International Yacht Championship, strengthening security at event
sites and public facilities, improving public transportation, preparing for the 8th Pan-Yellow Sea Forum,
and supporting volunteers.
The Maritime & Fisheries Bureau of the
provincial government will continue to share developments with the Organizing Committee
and Boryeong-si to address vulnerabilities.
In addition, the province will promote the
participation of provincial residents, strengthen infection prevention and
security efforts amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and implement a phased pandemic
recovery program.
Governor Yang said, “We need to be very
careful in preparing for the festival as the number of cases is rising amid the
spread of the Omicron variant, and we must develop multiple scenarios to cope
with contingencies that may occur during the festival.
He noted, “We should be united in
identifying and addressing difficulties. The festival will require thorough
preparation for infection prevention while creating new growth in the province
and inducing the participation of 2.2 million residents from 15 cities and
countries.
The 2022 Boryeong Mud Festival is a
large-scale industrial fair aiming to promote new marine industries and develop
marine mud content, with about 120,000 participants visiting from overseas.
The event will take place from July 16th
to August 15th under the theme, ‘Rediscovery of Ocean, Future Value
of Muds’ at Daecheon Beach in Boryeong
